Seduce the Universe

The movie, ‘Casanova’, tells the story of Don Juan de Marco, a legendary character who devotes his life to seducing women. The seducer and the legend, Don Juan is known as the greatest lover of all times. He was admired by woman for his esoteric seducing skills and hated by men.
Casanova returned to Venice several times as he travelled around Europe from Paris to Dresden to Vienna, but his “libertine” lifestyle attracted too much attention. One day he was chased by the authorities as he embarked on a gondola to flee the scene. His old friend, Don Octavio, could not resist asking Don Juan to tell him the secret to a woman’s heart.
Don Juan respond as follows:
‘My friend, by seeing beyond what is visible to the eye. Now there are those, of course, who do not share my perceptions, it’s true. When I say that all my women are dazzling beauties, they object. The nose of this one is too large; the hips of another, they are too wide; perhaps the breasts of a third, they are too small. But I see these women for how they truly are… glorious, radiant, spectacular, and perfect because I am not limited by my eyesight. Women react to me the way that they do, Don Octavio, because they sense that I search out the beauty that dwells within until it overwhelms everything else. And then they cannot avoid their desire, to release that beauty and envelop me in it.’
So let me conclude with the following thought. Let me use Don Juan,s thoughts and see if I can say what he would have said to us today. Here is my translation of the story:
By seeing beyond what is visible to the eye. Now there is something inside of me, of course, there is a voice within me that does not share my perceptions, it’s true. When I say that I am perfect in every way and I am beautiful and my life is a great adventure, it objects. It will say, your nose is too large, your hips are too wide, you are not good enough and you are not worthy. But I choose to see myself for who I truly am; glorious, radiant, spectacular, and perfect because I am not limited by limiting stories, my eyesight, or other people’s opinions. The universe reacts to me the way that it does because it senses that I search out the beauty that dwells within me and others until it overwhelms everything else. And then the universe cannot avoid its desire, to release that beauty and envelop me in it.

I found it intriguing, and enjoyed the timelessness of the answer to a never ending challenge we all face. It’s so true and perfect, especially for the current times we are living in.
